George Karl officially cancer free in 2011

Forsberg Jersey Retirement

Special Olympics CO Project Unify Grandview

A two time cancer survivor, George Karl hit 2011 officially and completely cancer free.  With no basketball to coach in part of 2011, George Karl spent his time tending to his other passion in life: fighting cancer, a disease he’s now beaten twice.  Karl said he’s spending his spare time during the NBA labor impasse speaking at cancer charities and encouraging people to join the fight against the disease. In his prime, Forsberg was one of the best two-way players in the NHL. He helped Colorado to Stanley Cup titles in 1996 and 2001 along with winning the league MVP award in 2003.  The Colorado Avalanche retired Forberg’s No. 21 jersey prior to their the 2011 season opener against the Detroit Red Wings.  Forberg is only the fourth Colorado Avalanche player to have a jersey retired following  Joe Sakic (19), Patrick Roy (33) and Ray Bourque (77).
